Community Development (CDP-Badakhshan)
Villages in Badakhshan, like many places in Afghanistan, have not had schools until fairly recent. Their remote locations, lack of teachers, and the many years of war have prevented school attendance for generations. In one of our villages, the community identified illiteracy, among men and women in the village as a problem directly linked to other problems they were experiencing. For example, they weren't’t able to apply for help from the government and non-government bodies, and they haven’t been able to gain knowledge about basic illnesses in their communities.
