Mazar Ophthalmic Center
The Mazar Ophthalmic Center is a 40 bed eye hospital located in Mazar-i-Sharif in Balkh province.
The facility not only serves Balkh province but acts as a referral center for all of northern Afghanistan. In 2008 MOC saw 31,380 patients and performed 3,201 surgeries. 4,043 refractions were performed and 3,313 pairs of eyeglasses were distributed. Pharmacy production is currently sufficient for the needs of the eye hospital and 42,797 bottles of eye drops were produced in the last year.
We have increased our range of frames and lenses in the refraction department, providing plastic lenses to children, which are lighter and safer than glass.
In the past year MOC has increased its working hours in order to provide better services to our beneficiaries. We are also offering same day surgery in order to decrease the cost for those who must travel from outside the city.
