One important aspect of our work in 2008 was developing some training materials.

We initially developed a simple basic business skills course ourselves within the project and our office assistant/translator translated it into Dari. It specifically covers marketing, understanding competitors, quality assurance, product development, pricing and other business skills in a simple way. Now we have developed some simple illustrated ‘picture book’ type of training materials to use as reading material in this situation.

These will provide an increasingly higher level of reading practice and an increasingly more developed story to illustrate some aspect of business skill. Each page has a picture or line drawing to illustrate the point and is spiral bound into a booklet. All tell a story to teach an aspect of business, pricing, marketing, competitors, quality assurance or something else. Ladies who are just beginning to read simple sentences can use these books during the literacy classes to develop their reading skills and also gain further understanding about business related issues.
