Since 1995 IAM has been training Ophthalmic Technicians in order to fill a gap in eye care provision. These young men and women play a vital role in providing eye care to the people of Afghanistan, particularly in areas where there are no ophthalmologists. We are also training community health workers around the country so that they are able to identify and treat simple eye problems as well as refer more complicated cases to regional hospitals.
