The Herat Ophthalmic Centre (HOC) was begun through a trachoma outreach project in the mid 1970s. It is now a fully functional 40 bed hospital. HOC serves the people of Western Afghanistan by providing eye care services in a cooperative effort between IAM and the Ministry of Health.
We see over 60,000 patients and perform over 2,000 sight-saving surgeries annually. Our pharmacy produces over 100,000 bottles of eye drops per year while our optical workshop provides over 6,000 pairs of glasses each year. |
